Pressure testing pump is a machine driven by an electric motor for pressure testing of pipelines. Its working theory is mainly based on mechanical power transmission to fluid pressure. The specific process is as below:
Power Unit (motor drive)
Motor: Provides rotational power, usually using an AC motor, driven by a power supply.
Reduction mechanism: Some pumps are equipped with a reduction gearbox to convert the high speed of the motor into a low-speed, high-torque output suitable for pump operation.
Mechanical Transmission Unit (crankshaft connecting rod or cam mechanism)
Crankshaft-connecting rod mechanism: The motor rotates to drive the crankshaft, and the connecting rod converts the rotational motion of the crankshaft into the reciprocating linear motion of the plunger (piston) (similar to the piston motion of an internal combustion engine).
Cam mechanism: Some pumps use a cam to push the plunger to achieve periodic reciprocating motion.
Pressure Generation Unit (plunger pump principle)
Plunger reciprocating motion:
Suction stroke: When the plunger retreats, the volume of the pump chamber increases, forming a negative pressure, the water inlet valve opens, and the liquid (usually water or oil) is sucked into the pump chamber.
Pressure stroke: When the plunger moves forward, the volume of the pump chamber decreases, the water inlet valve is closed, the water outlet valve is pushed open, and the liquid is compressed and output to the system under test.
Multi-stage plunger: High-pressure test pumps often use multiple plungers in parallel (such as three-plunger pumps) to reduce flow pulsation and improve pressure stability through phase difference.
Pressure Control & Safety
Pressure relief valve: When the system pressure exceeds the set maximum value, the pressure relief valve will automatically open to protect the equipment and pipeline.
Pressure gauge/sensor: Real-time display or transmission of pressure data, some models are equipped with digital pressure controllers.
Pressure stabilization function: Maintain constant pressure through motor start and stop or frequency conversion control (such as automatic shutdown after reaching the target pressure, automatic pressure replenishment when the pressure drops).
Output Medium
Liquid medium (water or oil): Because liquid is incompressible, it can stably transmit high pressure and is usually used for static pipepressure testing.
Notes
Before use, check whether the pressure relief valve is normal to avoid overpressure explosion.
Liquid media must be completely exhausted to prevent gas compression from causing unstable pressure.
Through the above steps, the electric pressure test pump converts electrical energy into mechanical energy and then into fluid pressure to achieve high-precision pressure testing of the system under test.
